Santa Clara Town Centre

Last updated in the 1970’s this 21-acre shopping center was typical of old strip center design. With a large parking field in front, the center was designed for automotive convenience with little regard for the experience of shoppers once they were out of their cars. The renovation of the center brings contemporary retail design principles to bear on the entire site.

The new plan provided a series of retail buildings at the front corner, addressing the convergence of two major arterials and creates numerous areas for gathering and dining. The architecture is enriched with a Spanish Colonial Revival style (based on Santa Clara’s “Mission City” heritage) and surrounded by gracious, richly landscaped walkways, plazas and courtyards.

The renovated center encourages gathering and lingering with a series of fountains, shaded terraces and dining patios.
