Protegé

Palo Alto, CA
Nestled in the heart of Palo Alto’s downtown district, Protégé reimagines fine dining for a new generation. Designed as both a neighborhood mainstay and a destination for culinary excellence, the space reflects the dual nature of its founders—French Laundry veterans Anthony Secviar and Master Sommelier Dennis Kelly—who set out to blend high-end technique with local approachability.

The design balances comfort and precision, aligning with the restaurant’s mantra of being “approachable,” while still providing a stage for world-class cuisine and service.

San Francisco artist Windy Chien created signature woven-knot room dividers and light fixtures in the private dining room. One of only 279 Master Sommeliers in the world, owner Dennis Kelly commissioned a custom walnut wine room—a refined, wood-clad sanctuary where world-class wines meet expert-level taste.

Protégé’s interior celebrates modern craftsmanship, hospitality, and a quiet confidence. It’s a space designed for serious food lovers—but without pretense.
