Benziger Interpretive Center

Sustainable Design Director, Buddy Williams, worked closely with the Benziger Family Winery to create an “Interpretive Center” to explain the philosophy of biodynamic winemaking and agriculture to the public. The center’s design features a meandering trail around a central pond, with moments of discovery and explanation at specific points along the path.  Water plays an important role, not only in understanding its use in irrigation but also creating biodiversity, evaporative cooling and ambient noise. A series of trellises provide a shaded canopy as well as a structure for vines and nesting birds.

The Benziger Winery is a renown far beyond Sonoma County for their organic, demeter-certified biodynamic wines – a holistic technique of regenerative farming practices that treats the vineyard as a self-sustaining ecosystem and produces distinctive, authentic wines.
