This project transformed a 1990s office building into the new home of Luna Dance & Creativity, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering creativity and community through art and dance. The program introduced two dance studios, offices, meeting rooms, a co-working space, and a fully accessible elevator within the existing building. Fortunately, the existing building allowed the organization’s community-centered mission to be accommodated while providing flexibility for future programs.
Working within a limited budget, the design emphasized adaptive reuse and material efficiency. Existing office wall framing was retained and re-clad in translucent polycarbonate to bring daylight into the dance studios. The ground floor was opened to create a parent waiting area and shared workspace for instructors. A new three-stop elevator, achieved through strategic stair relocation, ensures full accessibility and reinforces Luna’s commitment to inclusivity.
